Decorative wood veneers are thin slices cut from timber used in the manufacture of furniture and cabinetry. These veneers come in varying colors, shades and patterns dependant on the type of wood, the angle of cut and from which part of the tree the slice is taken. Richly patterned or ‘figured’ woods are highly prized for their veneers. This figuring is the result of several interactions during the tree’s aging process: the number of growth rings, pigmentation, differences in the density of cell structure and natural forces causing contorted, swollen or stunted tree trunks, limbs and roots.
